Yes.
Exactly 7 years ago today, I said “yes” to the Keeper of my soul. Whew! I don’t think I really understood what I was getting myself into. All I knew was that suicidal thoughts were bombarding my mind and a friend advised me that I needed to finally surrender my life to Christ and be under His umbrella. What I did not know was that Lynda was going to die, literally. As I reflect on my journey so far, all I can say is, “thank you God.” Because me?! Chosen by God?! Hmmm. When we give our lives to Christ, we sometimes think that our life will suddenly become perfect. On the contrary, it is the complete opposite. Your life will turn upside down but, for the most beautiful reason. I am so sorry if no one told you that but yes, everything that can be shaken will be shaken. Relationships will end, disconnections will have to be made, old habits will have to be broken and mindsets will have to be renewed. But, that’s all because your life is being perfected. In these 7 years, here’s all that I have learned so far.
You are a new creation when you emerge out of the water but, your sanctification process begins immediately. It may not look or feel good but, it is necessary.
You cannot be obedient to someone that you don’t love. Most of us, came to the faith because someone introduced Jesus to us. As beautiful as this is, there comes a point in your walk where you have to get to know Jesus for yourself. Intimacy breeds trust.
You will get it wrong along the way. But, always go back to His feet.
Your eyes must remain up and your heart must remain open. If you take your eyes off of the prize, you can and will get discouraged along the way. You can even lose faith. But, if your heart remains open, God will always have access to reel you back in position.
Your “yes” has to be daily. In any relationship that you are in, love is never enough. You have to intentionally choose the other person day after day. This is the same with our relationship with God, you must say “yes” to Him daily. Yes, to his purpose over your feelings. Yes, to His desires over your own. Yes, to the leading of the Holy Spirit rather than your flesh. Everyday, you must intentionally choose Him.
There are some prisons that you are in where you’ll have the key to unlock the doors. Then, there are some prison doors that will require someone else that has the key to let you out. Deliverance will be needed along the way because there are some covenants that we may have made when we were in the world and it’ll take deliverance to break them. You need a community, you cannot do this by yourself..
God’s love is everlasting. God loves you and He chose you before you even chose Him. Bask in that, let it be your daily affirmation.
XO, Lynn J.
