The Destination

Have you ever taken a road trip? Like a really long one? It seems the longer the drive, the more pleasant the rest stops are. Some are filled with gift shops that have beautiful souvenirs, some have great restaurants, beautiful scenery, etc,. Sometimes the rest area could be so beautiful that when you simply stopped to use the restroom and grab something to eat, you get consumed with everything else and end up staying there longer than you intended. Then, because of the comfortability at the rest stop, your expected arrival time has been delayed.

Last year, I hosted an Instagram live titled, “Go With God: GPS Activated.” https://www.instagram.com/tv/CpYX0-fqOly/?igsh=YXYzb3N4Z3cyamVk

In this live, I broke down the importance of not going to our destination without the Holy Spirit, which is our spiritual navigational system, in a sense. He is the one that tells us where to go, where and when to turn. When there has been a delay or accident ahead and when we have arrived at our destination. On this journey called, “life,” the Holy Spirit’s goal is to make sure that we arrive at our destination with everything that we need, fulfilling everything that we were called to and ensure that we get to Jesus, no matter what route we take.

I want you to look at your life like this; the destination is Jesus. Things that you acquire along the way are only souveniers and reminders of the journey/trip that you took. Some of us, if not most of us, are sometimes so focused on the rest stops that we forget that there’s someone at the destination waiting to give us more than the rest stops ever could.

You reveal the path of life to me;
in your presence is abundant joy;
at your right hand are eternal pleasures. Psalms 16:11 CSB

I want to also take a pause here, because some of us have acquired meaningful, beautiful and hardworking things along the way. Such as, our children, our spouses, our degrees, our businesses, our ministries, accolades, etc. Things that I don’t want to devalue in no way shape or form. But, instead remind you that these things are supposed to be used for the destination, they are not the destination itself.

Nowadays, it seems as though everyone is searching for their purpose. Although nothing is wrong with wanting to know your reason for existence, we must not allow our search for what our purpose is to cause us to miss who we’re purposed for.

“Purpose, the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.”

‘Thus says the LORD, “Let my people go, that they may serve me. Exodus 8:1 ESV

When we have a clear understanding that wherever life calls us and whatever we acquire along the way, it’s all supposed to be used to glorify Jesus at the end of the road. Then, we would become much more intentional and better stewards of what we have in the meantime.

His owner said to him, ‘You have done well. You are a good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things. I will put many things in your care. Come and share my joy.’ Matthew 25:23 NLV
